Dummy text,or Lorem ipsum —also known as lipsum—is the name given to text typically used by printers and graphic designers (e.g., web designers and DTP specialists) to see how a text or font will look. It is a so-called test text for a webpage or book in development. It is also referred to as dummy text. In Dutch, “lorem ipsum” is also called “faketekst,” hence the name of this website.
The Lorem Ipsum text originated sometime around the year 1500 and begins with the text: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum. However, various versions of this text have been written, all of which always include the first sentence.
